This series of 2-D mixed media images allowed me the opportunity to explore affinities between squares, paint and other medium. These geometric abstracts are pieced together using various layers of paint and clear packing tape. Each layer is separately altered and defined through the square, giving the colors and textures a tangible location. I most enjoyed watching the last coat of paint stick to the edges of the tape, creating visual harmony from ensuing chaos.
I’m going for that immediate impact from across the room. But if someone wants to look a little closer they’ll see the detailed effects produced by the alternating layers of paint and tape. I’ve been told that the series has a mid-century modern feel, while others say the darker pieces have a depressing pre-1989 Eastern European vibe. It's your call.
